When Vacation Memories Go Beyond Photographs

With the arrival of November and the end of the rainy season, travelers once again head to the warm destinations of Southeast Asia. The rich nature of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other exotic countries captivate visitors — and the desire to get closer to nature can sometimes lead to encounters that are more intense than expected.

Macaques, stray cats and dogs, squirrels, capybaras, monitor lizards, jellyfish, sea urchins, corals, and even insects may behave unpredictably. As a result, the number of cases involving bites and scratches continues to rise each year, making timely support especially important for insured travelers.

What to do in case of a bite or scratch

Even a minor skin injury can lead to serious complications — from local infection to the risk of rabies. The first steps must be quick:

  • to wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water within the first 10–15 minutes;
  • to apply an antiseptic;
  • to note the time of the incident and, if possible, to take a photo of the animal;
  • immediately contact Remed Assistance — just as our insured traveler from Kazakhstan did after being bitten by a macaque in Thailand.

Timely medical coordination

Drawing on years of experience, our team provides first-aid instructions and directs the traveler to the nearest suitable medical facility, where the following procedures are carried out:

  • wound assessment,
  • cleaning and treatment,
  • vaccination,
  • antibacterial therapy and any additional necessary procedures.

The medical center is selected to ensure convenience for follow-up visits and completion of the full vaccination course. The patient also receives recommendations and information about all administered medications to share with doctors upon returning home. After his trip, the traveler successfully completed the vaccination course in Kazakhstan.

With Remed Assistance, unexpected incidents become positive memories

Our team strictly follows medical protocols and provides continuous support at every step, giving travelers confidence and peace of mind. Even the most surprising encounter with local wildlife won’t overshadow the vacation — instead, it becomes a story with a positive ending. And that memorable photo taken just before the incident may well become a favorite story to share with friends.
