Spinal Injury Repatriation from Thailand

A 1948-born Kazakhstani patient was injured while vacationing in Pattaya, Thailand, and was admitted to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. The patient spent 11 days in intensive care. Medical evaluations revealed the following diagnoses:

  • Compression fracture of the L1 vertebra
  • Fractures of the 7th and 8th ribs on the left side
  • Coccyx injury

The treatment process was further complicated by the patient’s chronic conditions, including diabetes and hypertension. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the hospital team, the patient’s condition was stabilized, blood sugar levels were controlled, and pain was significantly reduced.

Following medical assessment, it was determined that the patient could travel business class using a special brace and wheelchair, without the need for medical personnel during the flight.

Remed Assistance coordinated the entire process, including:

  • Securing all necessary medical documentation
  • Coordinating the travel plan with the treating physician
  • Providing ambulance transfer to Bangkok Airport
  • Arranging escort and wheelchair services for airport and in-flight needs

The flight proceeded smoothly, and the patient safely reached their home country.

“This case required not only medical but also highly sensitive operational coordination. As an elderly patient with both traumatic injuries and chronic conditions, a special approach was essential. Thanks to our team’s attention to detail and professional planning, the repatriation was completed safely and comfortably.” — İrem Fahri, Operations Team

Every case is unique, but at Remed Assistance, our goal remains the same: to provide timely support to our patients and ensure their safe return home.
