Life-Saving Medical Operation in Thailand
In Pattaya, Thailand, our insureds father and his five-year-old son were involved in a motorcycle accident and arrived at the hospital with multiple severe injuries. The patients were initially admitted to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Both required urgent medical intervention. Initial assessments confirmed that both were not fit to fly and required urgent surgeries.
Rapid and Coordinated Medical Intervention
The child, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, was found to have a displaced left parietal bone fracture, an epidural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and a 4 mm midline shift to the right. Due to the critical condition, an emergency neurosurgical operation was required, and the child was transferred to a specialized hospital in Bangkok. The surgery was successfully completed, the hematoma fully evacuated, with no complications. Post-operative care included antibiotics, anticonvulsant therapy, regular dressings, and follow-up appointments. Evaluations by the pediatric neurologist and neurosurgeon confirmed the child’s stable condition. The child soon became active, started eating independently, and neurological and vital signs returned to normal. A rehabilitation and physiotherapy plan was established after stabilization.
The father’s assessment revealed a displaced clavicle fracture, multiple rib fractures, lung contusion with atelectasis, transverse process fractures, second-degree liver injury, and multiple abrasions. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation at Pattaya Memorial Hospital. The post-operative course was uneventful, and his condition stabilized.
Successful Outcome and Recovery
The surgeries were completed on time and successfully. 15 days after the accident, both patients were cleared as Fit to Fly and safely returned home.
Remed Assistance Coordination
The treatment processes for father and son in different hospitals were professionally coordinated. Throughout the process, the mother was kept fully informed about the condition of her family members and provided with necessary psychological support.
Medical reports, financial statements, and approvals were regularly shared with the insurance company. The child’s hospital expenses initially totaled approximately USD 22,000, but thanks to successful negotiations with the hospital, the cost was reduced to USD 19,780.
