Brain surgery and safe evacuation of a young vacationer
In the summer of 2025, a male insured patient born in 2014 was vacationing with his family in Finike, Antalya. On June 14th, he suffered a serious head injury after falling from a bunk bed in his hotel room. The child lost consciousness immediately, and the first aid was provided on site by an ambulance team organized by Remed Assistance.
Race Against Time: Rapid Intervention and Critical Transfer
Following the initial intervention, the child was taken to a private hospital in Kumluca. Due to the severity of the trauma and suspicion of a brain hemorrhage, advanced treatment was required. Accordingly, he was transferred to Antalya Training and Research Hospital, where comprehensive neurological care could be provided. After examinations, a brain hemorrhage was diagnosed, and the patient underwent emergency surgery the same day. Since the case was treated as a forensic matter, detailed medical information was not shared with us; however, the child’s condition stabilized post-surgery and treatment continued with great care.
Second Phase: Continued Care at a Private Hospital
The treatment at the research hospital continued until June 30th, after which the patient was transferred to a private hospital for longer-term and specialized care. The transfer process was completed smoothly.
Safe Evacuation and Medically Accompanied Flight
On July 4th, the patient was cleared for travel by his doctor, and evacuation planning began. After approximately 72 hours of preparation, the patient was safely evacuated from Antalya to Moscow on July 15th via stretcher flight, accompanied by a doctor. Upon arrival, he was transferred to a children’s hospital to continue treatment.
Successful Completion Despite Challenges
One of the most challenging aspects of the case was the hesitancy of some hospitals in Moscow to admit the patient due to the lack of a local residence registration. However, the family overcame this obstacle by obtaining the necessary approvals through the Russian Ministry of Health.
“One of the biggest challenges throughout this case was the patient admission procedures at Moscow hospitals. The family and the entire team worked in close coordination to successfully manage the process.” — Rüstam Gülali, Operations Department
Gratitude and Reflection
The family expressed their gratitude for the professionalism, speed, and sensitivity shown throughout the process. This case highlighted once again the critical importance of swift action and disciplined teamwork, especially when it comes to pediatric patients. Starting in a region with limited healthcare resources like Finike, and successfully concluding with an international evacuation, it stands as an important example.
The Remed Assistance team takes pride in contributing to the recovery of our young patient and wishes him a speedy recovery.
